Empowering Women in the Fire Protection Industry

The National Fire Industry Association of Australia (NFIA) has partnered with Apprenticeships Victoria and the Apprenticeship Innovation Fund (AIF) to introduce the NFIA SPRINKS Project (SPRINKS).

SPRINKS is an initiative aimed at removing barriers faced by women in the traditionally male dominated Fire Protection Industry. This will be achieved by encouraging more women into the Industry and providing support to the current cohort.

Some aspects of SPRINKS includes:

  • Collaborating with Fire Industry Training (FIT), the sole provider of Fire Protection apprenticeships in Victoria, to enrol and secure placements for cohorts of new female apprentices in the sprinkler fitting trade
  • Implementing a mentorship program with our current pool of female industry members
  • Hosting events to build a strong support network for women within the industry and encouraging future female leaders
  • A conduit between women interested in entering the trade and Tier 1 companies
