Andrew Hickman
National President
Andrew has been involved in the fire protection industry for 22 years and actively involved with NFIA for 12 years. Andrew was the Queensland NFIA President for eight years before taking over the national role in 2016

Shayne Bennett
National Secretary & Treasurer, NFIA SA Representative
Shayne is Director – Contracts Manager at Australian Fire Services based in South Australia and was appointed National Secretary and Treasurer in 2016. He has been in the fire protection industry for 15 years after a career as a Major League Baseball player in the USA.
Gordon Stalley
NFIA NSW Representative
Gordon began his fire protection career in 1974 as an engineering cadet and is now celebrating over 30 years since he established his company, Premier Fire Services, in Sydney. In 2010 the company also purchased Premier Fire (NQ) which now operates from four offices in Queensland under the name Premier Fire.

Joe Armitage
NFIA WA Representative
Joe has been in the Fire Protection industry for 15 years and a recent appointment onto the NFIA board.

Joe is currently General Manager of WA for ARA Fire, having worked in a number of positions within the business.

Haysam Mohtadi

NFIA Victoria Representative
Haysam has been in the fire industry for over 25 years. Beginning his career as an apprentice, Haysam established and ran Rhino Fire Protection for 11 years and then spent nine years as Operational Manager for the company that bought him out. He established an import business, Fire Industry Supplies in 2016.

Rob Thomas

Rob has been a respected figure in the Fire Protection industry for over 25 years and is renowned for his pioneering work and innovative mindset. Rob is the Founder and CEO of FireMate Software and post merger, is the Head of Strategy for Uptick. Prior to this he was the former CEO of one of Australia’s largest Fire Service providers.
Rob’s dedication to innovation earned him the prestigious Innovation Award from Standards Australia in 2022 for a world-first initiative embedding Standards content and automating industry best practices. Rob was also recognised as one of the most influential contributors to Standards Australia in the past 100 years.

Brooke Andradi

Brooke has been working in the Fire Protection Industry since 2011. She is the General Manager of Leemark Fire Protection.

Brooke completed a Bachelor of Biomedicine (Bioengineering). During her final year of studies, she took on a part-time role as a draftsperson at Leemark. She found great satisfaction in the construction process and has remained in the Fire Protection Industry. Brooke has now worked in several positions in Leemark and has completed a Graduate Diploma of Building Safety and Fire Risk Engineering.

 

Tim Knappstein

Joe Smith

NFIA Chief Executive Officer
Joe Smith joined the Association in 2020, commencing as the NSW State Officer and becoming the Association’s General Manager, before his 2023 promotion to CEO. Joe has previous experience at a number of peak industry bodies in Australia, with previous roles at the Australian Dental Association and the Law Society of NSW. An experienced all-rounder, he has significant national and international political experience from is time in the UK and EU, as well as a background in finance and marketing. Joe completed his Master of Business (MBA) in Sydney in 2019.
